In 1978 Mark E. Jakan founded JEM Builders, Inc., with a unique blend of talent, hard work and dedication. JEM Builders has continually focused on projects that reflect Mark's interest in classic architecture found in coastal New England's history.

A majority of our business comes from referrals and repeat business from satisfied clients. Illustrating a solid reputation we work hard to maintain.

Baker’s Cove

In April 2007, we purchased the house at 802 Shennecossett Road (Baker’s Cove), Groton, CT, directly from the builder/owner, Mark Jakan, JEM Builders, Mystic, CT.

From the moment we saw it and stepped into the foyer, we knew that this was the home for us! We really weren’t looking to buy another home, but this was an opportunity that we could not pass up. The home is large, but cozy, and so elegant and welcoming. It has been an honor and a joy to live in this beautifully-built home. The design is superb with high-end appliances and top-of-the-line materials throughout the home. Each time we return home and turn down the stone driveway, we feel blessed. Over the past 17-plus years, our home has been a labor of love maintaining both the inside and the grounds.

It was a long negotiation with Mark, and we found him to be respectful, open minded, patient and kind. The closing was both uneventful and emotional, and we were so proud to be the new owners of this stylish home!

Mark Jakan is a talented builder and a true professional who cares deeply for each house that he either builds, refurbishes or expands. We consider Mark a friend and would recommend him without reservation.

Easy from start to finish

We couldn’t be happier. Mark built us a wonderful home. We had never built a house before and had heard all the horror stories. Mark made the process easy from start to finish. He walked us through everything. From meeting with the architect to the final inspections. We don’t even have a punch list, he took care of that too.
